Bootle Surgery

Prescriptions

Seascale and Bootle surgeries are able to dispense medication to any of their patients who live more than one mile from a community pharmacy.  Patients who live within one mile must use a community pharmacy of their choice.

The turnaround time for collection of repeat prescriptions will be 48 hours at both Seascale and Bootle.

You can request these prescriptions in person at the dispensary, by leaving the request in the prescription box at Seascale or Bootle, by calling the prescription line (Seascale 019467 27451 option 3/Bootle 01229 718711) or by using one of the online services. Please note: The prescription line at Seascale operates a voicemail service for prescription requests to be left Monday – Friday 09:00am – 4:00pm.

Please note we are unable to provide a delivery service at the present time.

EPS (Electronic Prescription Service) was introduced on 26th November 2019.  EPS allows prescribers to send prescriptions electronically to a dispenser (such as a pharmacy) of the patient’s choice. This makes the prescribing and dispensing process more efficient and convenient for patients and staff.

Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

From 1st April 2023, the charges are:

  • Prescription (per item): £9.65
  • 3-month Pre Payment Certificate (PPC): £31.25
  • 12-month Pre Payment Certificate (PPC): £111.60
  • HRT 12 month Pre Payment Certificate (PPC): £19.30

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 12 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
